Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper presents the color quantization using a self-organizing map (SOM) and image segmentation. We try to implement perceptual segmentation of color images using only the color quantization and without using the texture features. We proposed an improved hierarchical SOM that is a modified version of the Ong's method. The proposed algorithm try to obtain perceptual segmentation using the pre-processing of the edge-p-reserving smoothing by an anisotropic diffusion for reducing small regions. We also propose to introduce a new distance measure and local fractal dimensions for stabilizing competitive lerning. The proposed method provides more effective quantization results than the conventional methods.
