Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We examined at which stage of attention the bias for an angry face occurs, by using attentional blink(AB) as an index. In Experiment 1, using dwell time paradigm in which first and second targets were presented at different locations, we studied what influence the difference of facial expression of the first target gave to the discrimination rates of first and second targets. The results showed that when first target was the angry face, the discrimination rate of first target was the highest whereas that of second target was the lowest: the maximum AB was observed. Thus it was suggested that the participants more quickly shifted their attention to the angry face and then held on it for longer duration. In Experiment 2 where first and second targets were presented at same location, we examined whether it was longer engagement in angry face or delayed disengagement from it that caused the maximum AB in Experiment 1. The results showed that, when spatial shift of attention was not required, happy and angry expressions of first targets caused the same amount of AB, suggesting that it was delayed disengagement from angry face that gave rise to stronger AB in Experiment 1.
