Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | We have developed a CVA (Controllable Viewing-Angle) device consisting of a HAN (Hybrid Aligned Nematic) liquid-crystal cell. The CVA device can control the transmission of light at predetermined azimuth angles and in polar angles without changing the transmission of light in the normal direction. By arranging the CVA device on top of the LC (Liquid-Crystal)-Panel, we have realized a simple controllable viewing-angle display. In particular, the CVA device using a HAN liquid-crystal cell realized a higher light shielding effect and a wider available range of viewing-angle control than a homogeneous aligned liquid-crystal cell. |
