Abstract(in English) New digital broadcasting services for portable radio device started in Japan. To realize the high quality TV reception in the mobile environments, it is important to use diversity techniques, which usually requires multiple antennas. Due to the limited space of the handheld terminals, it is relatively difficult to place multiple antennas to a mobile terminal. Therefore, a tunable dipole external earphone antenna was proposed and investigated. The last paper proposed a simple feeding circuit structure to tune the operating frequency with a varicap diode inserted to the feed point. However, there is a problem in terms of the impedance matching when the antenna is used in vicinity of human body. Therefore, the focus of this paper is a modified impedance matching circuit with a varicap diode attached to the other end of the feed line and assessing the impedance characteristics of the earphone antenna including the effects of human body.
