Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper describes a novel approach to relate linguistic expressions in text to ontology. We use a Japanese parser based on Lexical Functional Grammar to analyze text and add syntactic features to each expression in the text, and the rule-based matching system called "Transfer" to detect the ontology concepts that match the expressions using the syntactic information. The approach can make an ambiguous matching between the expressions and the concepts in a robust way. The approach is also efficient because it does not require any logical formula or high-order predicate calculus. We applied the approach to diagnostic imaging reports in the clinical domain, and implemented a trial system that can relate the technical terms and expressions in the clinical reports to medical ontology concepts.
