A Design Method of Space-Time Clutter Suppression Filters with Beamspace Post-Doppler Structure

Abstract(in English) Space-time adaptive processing (STAP) suppresses the radar clutter by making a use of both temporal and spatial dimension with array antennas. Maximal SNR method is a typical algorithm for calculating the adaptive weights. Generally, the space-time adaptive filters have many adaptive weights. Therefore, many received signal samples (more than twice the number of the adaptive weights) are required for calculating the adaptive weights. On the other hand, if the space-time spectrum of the clutter can be estimated in advance, space-time clutter suppression filters can be designed definitively. In this case, many received signal samples are not required for calculating the filter coefficients. Therefore, this type of the filter can be applied to the clutter with the heterogeneous statistical property in range. We propose a design method of the space-time clutter suppression filters with beamspace post-Doppler structure. The space-time spectrum of the clutter can be easily estimated with this structure. Proposed filter has low sidelobe in the estimated region of the space-time clutter spectrum.
