Analysis of Optical Signal Regenerating Directional Coupler Loaded with SOA and Long-Period Grating

Abstract(in English) An all-optical signal regenerator that can regenerate and reshape the signals seems important, and will be one of the key devices in future ultra-fast optical networks. We propose a directional coupler loaded with a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) and a long-period grating and aim at realizing an all-optical signal regenerator. We would like to report on the device structure, the operation principle, the structural design and the operation performance analyzed using the time-dependent transfer matrix method (TMM). As a result, we confirmed the potential as an optical signal regenerator by utilizing nonlinearity of an SOA and a wavelength-selective directional coupler.
