Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We investigated the light transmission characteristics in a photonic crystal (PC) slab with liquid crystal (LC) as an anisotropic medium. In a uniform PC slab formed into SiN film, the guided resonance was observed for the normal incidence of light. In a PC slab with elliptical holes, a polarization filtering effect arising from the structural birefringence was observed. Then, the holes were filled with nematic LC. By making a phase transition in LC, the resonant wavelength was tuned by maximally 33nm. This will be applicable to a surface-normal-type device which controls the transmission and polarization characteristics of light.
