Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper reports on the fundamental development of an optical wireless voice-communication system that is intended to be used for the communication on the sea. The system uses a xenon lamp as a light source that has been widely used as a search light on the patrol boats. The intensity of the light from a xenon lamp is modulated by a voice signal, and the transmitted light is detected by a photodiode mounted with a condensing lens. We carried out theoretical and experimental studies on the noise at the receiver and the light propagation in the air. It has been made clear that the voice transmission over a distance of 10km is possible.
