Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Second- and third-order optical nonlinearity of homogeneous glasses and glasses with dispersed nano-partricles were investigated. The third-order optical nonlinearity of the homogeneous glasses mainly depends on the refractive index. On the other hand, the magnitude of third-order nonlinearity of the semiconductor microcrystals-doped glasses depends on the strength of the quantum size effect. Second-order optical nonlinearity was observed for the some kinds of homogeneous glasses.
