Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper summarizes recent advancements and possible applications of the Phase-Only Correlation (POC) technique---a high-accuracy image matching technique using phase information of discrete Fourier transform. Since 1990s, our research group has developed a technique of high-accuracy phase-based image matching for biometric authentication and achieved commercial application of fingerprint verification units. The same technique was also successfully applied to image recognition systems for industrial applications. Recently, our group has proposed an efficient correspondence search algorithm using POC, which can find pairs of corresponding points between the given images with sub-pixel accuracy. This makes possible to apply the POC technique to a variety of computer vision applications. Potential application examples include 3D vision, video signal processing, super resolution, microscope image analysis and image-based biometrics using iris, palmprint, dental radiograph and 3D face.
