Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We assessed the reliability and validity of a second language reading test, which measures effective reading speed (speed multiplied by comprehension). We examined the reliability by analyzing the internal consistency coefficients of effective reading speed, i.e., Cronbach's alpha. As for the validity, we tested (i) whether the effective reading speed test results follow the normal distribution of test results, i.e., criterion-related validity, (ii) whether the effective reading speed test results correlate with the conventional comprehension test results, i.e., content validity, and (iii) whether the effective reading speed test results can classify participants into three groups, i.e., construct validity. By analyzing the effective reading speed data of a hundred two English learners, we have confirmed the reliability and validity of the effective reading speed test.
