Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Thermo-optic coefficient of polymer materials is bigger than that of inorganic materials by one digit. Using the effect, realization of electric power saving switch is expected. The polymer TO switch, compared to the electro-optic switch, is possible to use but Mach-Zehnder type and Y-branch type. The latter has simple structure and is not dependent of the wavelength. In this study, we propose a method to measure temperature-dependence of refractive index, and report the measured result of various polymer materials. We found that the refractive indices of polyvinyl-alcohol (PVC) and UV hardening adhesive J-91 cross at 46.5℃. We propose a new TO switch of push-pull operation using this combination.
