A Study on Selective Encryption Methods for DCT Coefficients

Abstract(in English) Multimedia communications have been developing, and protection of video contents is an important issue. Encryption techniques are effective for the protection. Especially, a selective encryption method of DCT coefficients can protect the contents without high-processing loads. Such an encryption method reduces encryption bits and encrypts specific DCT coefficients. However, if statistical behaviors of DCT coefficient values have characteristics, then there is a risk of ciphertext-only attacks. In this paper, the statistical behaviors of DCT coefficient values have been computed to some sample images. Finally, the risk, which existing selective encryption methods of DCT coefficients are vulnerable to ciphertext-only attacks, has been evaluated with the statistical behaviors.
