Abstract(in English) Polarization mode dispersion (PMD) causes the restriction on the length and/or transmission capacity, therefore the authors have investigated PMD characteristics of the optical cables and improved the PMD characteristics of SZ-slotted core cables by optimizing the cable structure. The low PMD cables adopt the bend insensitive and low-water-peak fiber" PureAccess^[○!R]-PB" and the easily-and-safely-peelable ribbons" EZbranch^[○!R]". SZ slotted-core cables with peelable ribbons have widely been used due to its mid-span accessibility in access networks. The authors confirmed that the link design value (PMD_Q) of the developed cable was equal to or less than 0.2ps/√ specified in ITU-T recommendations G652.B/D.
