MIMO Systems with Random Unitary Precoding

Abstract(in English) Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) systems can achieve good performance when channel state information (CSI) is available at the transmitter. However, in fast time-varying fading environments, the difference between CSI fed back to the transmitter and that for the actual transmission is large, and thus it is difficult to get exact CSI at the transmitter. Therefore, MIMO systems that can achieve good performance without CSI at the transmitter have been expected. In this report, we propose a MIMO system with random unitary preceding to achieve good performance without CSI at the transmitter. The proposed scheme multiplys the transmitted signals by unitary matrix generated randomly and produces time slots where the signal to interference and noise ratio (SINK) of substreams is improved. In addition, Turbo coding is applied to exploit the time slots where the SINK of substreams is improved. If there are time slots where the SINR of substreams can be improved, the receiver can decode the data by using the time slots and the correlation between data. From the computer simulation, we show that bit error rate (BER) of the proposed scheme is slightly improved compared to that of the conventional MIMO system.
