Resin-housing Effects on the Resonant Frequency of Handset Built-in Antennas

Abstract(in English) Resin-housing effects on the resonant frequency of handset built-in antennas are discussed in this paper. A resin plate assumed as a resin-housing was located close to the planar inverted F antenna (PIFA) mounted on the rectangular metal plate (125 by 35mm^2). The size of the PIFA was determined so that the resonant frequency became 2GHz. Variations of resonant frequency were examined when the permittivity (ε_r), the thickness (t) of the resin plate and the distance (s) between the resin plate and the PIFA were varied. The results indicate that the reduction of resonant frequency was 6.8% in the case of ε_r=3, t=1mm and s=0mm. Furthermore, it is found that the miniaturization of 36% was achieved by the resin plate adjacent to the PIFA.
