A mitigation technique of high-power MAI in the optical CDMA system with the optical power selector

Abstract(in English) In this paper, we propose a mitigation technique of high-intensity multiple access interference (MAI) for multimedia optical CDMA systems using the optical power selector. In the proposed scheme, the high-priority users employ Optical Hard Limiter (OHL) with the high-level threshold to reduce the low-intensity MAI as in the conventional scheme. On the other hand, at the receiver side of the low-priority users, the received pulses are branched into three lines. Three kinds of OHLs of which the input threshold values are different each other clip the intensities of the divided pulses into the same intensity. After that, the two APDs which generate a positive output and a negative one, respectively, eliminate high-intensity MAI. Moreover, in the proposed scheme, since low-priority users can eliminate high-intensity MAI encoded by the same code sequence, a high-priority user and a low-priority user can share the same code sequence. That means that the proposed scheme can reduce by half the required number of code sequences compared to the conventional scheme. As a result, the proposed scheme can obtain higher code spreading gain due to the increase of number of weights at the same code-length. We analyze performances of the proposed scheme and show that both the high-priority users and low-priority users achieve lower bit error rates than the conventional scheme.
