Abstract(in English) | This paper presents a low phase noise planar voltage controlled oscillator (VCO). In order to achieve a low phase noise performance of the VCO, we have proposed a configuration of a high Q tuning circuit, consisting of dual series resonators. The loaded Q will become high if the two series resonant frequency is brought close. Due to these two resonators, a low phase noise characteristic can be achieved. The point to notice of the new resonant circuit is loss at the oscillation frequency. But we compensate the loss by a reflective gain of an active device for the oscillation. In addition, we raise a reflective gain by adopting harmonic constitution. Realization of the low phase noise VCO using the simple configuration is useful for the low cost microwave and millimeter-wave commercial production. The fabricated planar harmonic VCO achieves the phase noise of -116dBc/Hz at 1MHz from the carrier over a 500MHz tuning bandwidth in 38GHz-band. |
