| Abstract(in English) | Due to the recent development of scientific instruments and computer simulation technologies, the amount of earth observation data, with which geophisical scientists operate, is explosively increasing. In such a situation, those scientiests are under the pressure of efficiently and effectively finding desired data from massive scientific data archives and sharing such data for subsequent collabrative research. However, for those scientists who are not familiar with IT technologies, constructing such systems is difficult tooperate in many cases due to the high learning and maintenance costs. From those observations, we have been working for constructing a tool by which we can easily construct an enviroment where we can query and share massive scientific datasets easily. In this paper we describe an overview of our (proposed) system and the desktop search module for earth observation datasets With the desktop search module, a user only needs to store his/her data in a particular format such as HDF and NetCDF. The module then automatically extracts spatial and temporal information and keywords from the header-part of the data, and generates metadata for subsequent query retrieval and ranking. The query interface is very simple and the user is only required to input spatial and temporal region and some keywords of interest. When performing query retrieval, the module uses the metadata to rank the candidate query results. |
