Abstract(in English) | This paper presents field experimental results on real-time packet transmission of greater than 1Gbps employing 4-by-4 MIMO multiplexing with cross-polarized antennas both at the transmitter and receiver in the downlink OFDM radio access. We clarify the influences of the fading correlation and the cross-polarization ratio (XPR) among cross-polarized antennas on the measured packet error rate and throughput for MIMO multiplexing using cross-polarized antennas, taking into account the pilot based coherent channel estimation, Maximum Likelihood Detection (MLD)-based signal detection, and adaptive modulation and coding (AMC). Field experiments elucidate that the required average received SINR (Signal-to-Interference plus Noise power Ratio) to achieve 1-Gbps throughput employing crosspolarized antennas is increased by approximately 3-5dB compared to that using space diversity antennas due to the reduction in the received signal power from horizontal antennas and unequal diversity gain between vertical and horizontal polarized antennas. However, it is shown that by using MLD-based signal detection, the measured throughput of greater than 1Gbps is achieved using cross-polarized antennas at the average received SINR of approximately 17-19dB, indicating the effectiveness of the combination of cross-polarized antennas and MLD-based signal detection in MIMO multiplexing. |
