Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We demonstrate a silica-based solid photonic band gap fibre with attenuation below 20dB/km at 1520nm. By using the first band-gap which has not been used for solid photonic band-gap fibres, and by using a large refractive index contrast as large as 2.8% in the periodic structure of the cladding, we achieve a wide transmission range and a reduced fibre diameter. The transmission bandwidth of the fabricated fibre is over 400nm and covers the entire telecom wavelength range from O-band to U-band (1260nm-1675nm). The fibre diameter is 130μm, which is almost the same as conventional telecom fibres.
