Position Estimation and Character Recognition of Road Guidance Sign for Road Information Maintenance

Abstract(in English) In order to maintain the digital road map for car navigation, this paper proposes an image processing based method to estimate road guidance sign location information and recognize the sign context. GPS information and time-series image data are combined to estimate road guidance sign's location. Character recognition, method is divided into String Reader and Model Finder, according to the target character. High location accuracy and high recognition rate have been verified from real road experiments.
