Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Traffic psychology researchers have discussed the risk-taking liability. In this study, observations at a T-shaped intersection and questionnaire surveys were conducted. Observation results revealed that many variables (stop, speed, seat belt use etc.) have statistically significant associations. In addition, almost all variables of the drivers' observed more than once evidenced the stability of an individual's risk-taking. Moreover, factors influencing driving behaviour were not only driver characteristics but also external conditions (i.e. other road users). A 'Driving Schema Model Based on Safety Motives' was suggested based on observation results. Furthermore, the questionnaire surveys demonstrated that drivers with three to five years of experience after their licensing overestimated their driving skill and did not drive very safely.
