Abstract(in English) | This report studies the subjective quality of a multipoint-to-multipoint IP TV conference system. In multipoint-to-multipoint communications, there are two kinds of subjective quality for a user. One is the quality of the communication with every other conferee; we refer to the quality as individual subjective quality to a conferee. The other is the quality of the system, which is referred to as overall subjective quality for the user. The overall subjective quality can be affected by the individual one to each conferee and inter-destination synchronization quality. The inter-destination synchronization quality is expressed in terms of the difference in output time of audio and video between conferee's terminals. Major factors which can damage the individual subjective quality are MU delay, media synchronization quality and the inter-destination synchronization quality. Buffering control at receiver terminals is effective in improving the media synchronization quality. However, setting the buffering time at each terminal independently leads to the degradation of the inter-destination synchronization quality. Therefore, it is necessary to take account of the buffering control when we assess the subjective quality. We quantitatively clarify factors which affect the two kinds of subjective quality when the buffering control is applied. |
