Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Nonverbal information such as gaze direction, head orientation and facial expressions conveyed with utterance plays an important role in face-to-face conversations between people. Nonverbal information ensures fluent conversation by which information of intentions of utterance and silence is exchanged among participants. This paper analyzes gaze behaviors at turn-taking in three-party conversation and describes a transition model of turn-taking. Unlike other studies we focus on the behaviors of hearers. First, utterances and gaze behaviors of participants during utterances and at transition of turn-taking are observed and transcribed. The analysis shows the hearer who gazes more at speaker takes more chance to speak and that the hearer who gaze less tends to hesitate to speak.
