Synchronization of an over 160GHz optical beat signal by optical phase-locked loop technique

Abstract(in English) We propose and show that an optical phase-locked loop (OPLL) is capable of synchronizing a high speed optical beat signal with an external optical signal. The proposed OPLL consists of an optical beat signal source, comprising a pair of three-electrode distributed feedback laser diodes, and an all-optical phase detector based on the two photon absorption in a Silicon avalanche photodiode. In this paper, we demonstrate that a 160-GHz optical beat signal can be synchronized to an external 40-GHz, 2-ps optical short pulse train with an r.m.s. timing jitter of 126fs by the OPLL. In addition, we show that the OPLL can synchronize a high speed optical beat signal such as a 1-THz optical beat signal.
