Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Fiber fuse running through a single-mode silica glass fiber pumped by 1480nm light were observed in situ with an interval of few micro seconds. These images were compared with the optical micrographs of generated damage. A statistical analysis of the micrographs showing the front region of the damage reveals a periodic void formation process. A transient propagation mode without void formation was observed during fiber fuse initiation and self-termination.
