Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We demonstrate a possibility of generating subwavelength-sized beam by using a tapered Bragg fiber. Simulation results show that the tapered Bragg fiber with a core as small as half of the working wavelength confines light strongly within the core. 1μm-core tapered Bragg fibers with mode field diameters about 1.1μm for 0.85μm wavelength are successfully fabricated by a sputtering technique. The experiment results suggest that the transmission efficiencies and the qualities of generated beam are affected significantly by irregularities of Bragg multilayer. The high quality subwavelength beam can be generated by carefully selecting the film thickness of the multilayer structure and improving its uniformity.
