A formulation for solving cladding modes of round optical fiber

Abstract(in English) The multi-layer method is one of the most popular method to analyze round symmetrical optical fiber because of its high accuracy and low calculation cost. However, if it is used to analyze cladding modes, fatal numerical error (ex. overflow or underflow) may occur. In this paper, we propose a new formlation of multi-layer method to obtain cladding mode and show some know-how for coding. By using the code based on the formulaton, we show that field distribution of cladding mode may take specific pattern at specific wavelengths.
