Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We are studying vision chips for retinal prosthesis in which the vision chip implanted on or underneath the retina of the blind patients makes visual sensation by stimulating the surviving retinal cells according to the captured images. In this report, we describe a distributed and isolated microchip architecture powered by infrared light to cover large area of the retina with multiple microchips to decrease operation faults concerning disconnection of electric contacts or damages to the packaging. We also discuss digital implementation of almost all part of the pixel circuits of the vision chip to make design and verification easy. By use of a pulse-frequency-modulation photosensor with wide dynamic range using a capacitive-feedback-reset scheme that works as a 1-bit ADC, the vision chip architecture with synthesizability from HDL sources was discussed. We also show a real-time emulator to verify operation of image processing circuits described by HDL.
