Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In speech production, it is known that nasal and nasalized sounds affect the quality of speech sound and adds some individual characteristics. Therefore, a lot of studies were conducted for investigating the velum function in speech production, but there is still lack of physiological observation for modeling the velum functions. In this study, we measured the thickness (effective mass) of the velum based on MRI data, which is one of the factors concerned with the nostril sound. The parameters of the velum model were estimated based on the measurement of the thickness of the velum. Further more, the velum model was combined with the acoustic model of the vocal tract and used to simulation. The results indicated that the nasal radiation in a non-nasalization vowel is caused by the coupling of the nasal cavity and oral cavity via the velum vibration.
