A Compressed-Domain Fast MPEG-2 Video Stitching Method

Abstract(in English) We propose a fast video stitching method to make a higher resolution video from multiple MPEG-2 coded video sequences. First of all, slices in input sequences are rearranged in the output slice order. Picture headers in any input sequences are integrated into one, which causes confliction between picture header and several types of macroblock parameters such as motion vectors and intra DC coefficients. Therefore, these macroblock parameters are decoded and re-encoded according to the change of the picture header. We made experiments and confirmed that the proposed method can stitch two MPEG-2 coded sequences 13.2 times faster than complete decoding and re-encoding, with only about 0.22% increase of bit length at no quality loss.
