Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | In spite the fact that English bare plurals (N-s) show the different syntactic distribution from common nouns, they have been given the same syntactic category in generative grammar. In spite the fact that they have different semantic properties that the former has the referential ability, whereas the latter does not, the latter has been analyzed to denote the set. This talk will give this situation a consistent explanation by analyzing English plural -s as a determiner. |
