Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) A novel polarization converter using a triangular dielectric waveguide is developed and analyzed by the beam-propagation method based on Yee's mesh and the finite-difference time domain method. We investigate a polarization conversion length as a function of core refractive index, while the cladding material is fixed to be silicon dioxide. It is found for a sillicon core that the conversion length is 2 μm, while the loss is 0.3 dB at λ=1.55 μm. The extinction ratio is more than 20 dB over a wavelength range of 1.2 μm to 1.57 μm. The characteristics of the extiction ratio are also investigated as a function of the interior angle of the triangular waveguide.
