Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) A unified micro-cellular network we have been studying provides a kind of LMC (Logical Macro-Cell) consisting of several adjacent micro-cells to offer high bit rate packet transfer to fast moving terminals through parallel polling performance. To configure the LMC, the terrestrial networks are required to provide multicast of packets and the polling response to every micro-cell in an LMC. PON (Passive Optical Network) with a nature of broadcasting suits the terrestrial network, and is adapted to offer the multicasting and piggy-backed or aggregated transfer of the polling response. Good performance of parallel polling will be decided by the time the polling response traveled in PON. This paper will give a look of fundamental of EPON and its adaptation to optimize the MM-MAN operation. This operation of EPON in MM-MAN is evaluated through value of MT throughput and EPON throughput.
