Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Internal estimation of movements is an essential component in human motor control. Movement estimation comprise two types: movement of self and movement of others. Here we investigated the neural correlates of movement estimation of the self versus others with functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). Participants tracked a target, which was moving sinusoidally on the screen, with a cursor controlled by a computer mouse. This task included a trial in which either the target (other) or the cursor (self) motion was visually occluded. The fMRI results revealed the activation in the pre-SMA in common to both target and cursor occlusion. Moreover, laterality of the posterior parietal cortex was observed between the occlusion of target and cursor: right superior/inferior parietal lobule (SPL/IPL) and left IPL showed greater activation during occlusion of the target and the cursor, respectively. These results suggest that the pre-SMA is involved in internal visuomotor imagery and that right SPL/IPL and left IPL are involved in internal estimation of target and self motion, respectively.
