Field Measurement of Radio Environment Using S-Band Thin Antennas for Automotive Mobile Satellite Communications

Abstract(in English) Field measurement results of radio environment are reported for interference assessment at mobile terminals from existing systems. The terminals are assumed to be used in hypothetical non-geostationary orbit (non-GSO) satellite systems. Non-GSO satellite systems are attractive for novel communication infrastructure due to potential of maintaining high satellite elevation angle in Japan, which is effective for reducing shadowing and/or multipath influence in an urban area, and is suitable for mobile communications. The prototype non-tracking automotive thin antennas were used for the measurement, which were fabricated on trial for hypothetical non-GSO satellite systems application. The measurement were carried out under the drive in the urban, rural, and radio tower neighborhood areas. The acquired data are summarized to be link unavailability, which is the time rate of exceeding C/N threshold level.
