Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Recently, an increasing number of hosts have plural network interfaces (NI) such as wired/wireless NI cards and VPN interfaces, where each interface may have a different communication route to the same destination host. Currently, a network interface is selected based on the IP address of the destination host at the operating system (OS) regardless of its provided service quality. A different interface from this default NI can be more suitable for some applications to satisfy their requested service quality. In this paper, we design the endhost service oriented routing (eSOR) architecture to realize this NI selection based on the application of the host, and implement it on Linux 2.6.13. The comparison of communication loads between our proposed eSOR and the existing NI selection architecture in the same OS shows that the overhead in eSOR is very small and it is very practical.
