Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We have proposed a face detector based on the probabilistic pattern matching. The proposed method is an extension of the technique by using the probabilistic increment sign correlation (PISC) developed by Mita et al. and has the advantage that the calculation of the sign codes and obtaining the candidate regions for an input signal can be executed at the same time by using the Wavelet transform. The usage of the sign codes also leads the robust detection results under the unknown conditions such as lightning variations. We applied the proposed method to the practical images including frontal faces and examined the detection rates. The obtained detection rates were compared with those of conventional detectors. As the conventional detectors, we employed the method proposed by Viola and Jones, the PISC and the conventional matching method by using a normalized correlation. As the result, we verified that the proposed method has higher detection rates than the conventional methods.
