Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper considers a fairness issue between uplink and downlink flows in IEEE 802.11 wireless LAN, where uplink flows dominate over downlink flows in terms of wireless bandwidth usage. We propose a simple solution to improve the fairness among all flows by means of adjusting the minimal contention window size (CW_) at the access point. Note here that CW_ is a parameter of IEEE 802.11 MAC protocol. The proposed scheme can be easily implemented, because no modification is required in the MAC protocol of wireless terminals. Furthermore the proposed scheme requires only the number of downlink flows in adjusting CW_ at the access point, even though the throughput of each flow is determined by the numbers of downlink and uplink flows in general. We evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme for TCP and UDP traffic flows through simulation experiments.
