Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) To maintain the communication quality of customers, it is important for ISPs to monitor the routing information exchanged by BGP (Border Gateway Protocol), and to observe the connectivity to destinations outside of their own ISPs. In BGP, a BGP router advertises changes of routing information to neighbor BGP routers using UPDATE messages. These messages carry not only abnormal changes of routing information caused by some unstable events, but also normal changes of routing information caused by the normal operations such as router re-configuration. Therefore it is important to extract only the unstable change of routing information among a large amount of UPDATE messages to detect the failure in external ASs. In this paper, we focus on a route flap that is one of the unstable routing events. The route flaps are caused by some failures such as a failure of router's interface card. We propose the method to detect route flaps by extracting some specific UPDATE message patterns among a large amount of UPDATE messages received from a number of BGP routers.
