Monitoring Router/link Level Communication Quality

Abstract(in English) Recently, network measurement techniques has been considered as more important, because various applications which are critical for communication quality, such as voice communication, have been commonly used on IP networks. But, efficiently locating communication quality degradation point is still quite difficult for users, because existing MIB is not sufficient information for users to decide which link caused communication quality degradation. In this paper, we propose router/link level communication quality monitoring method which is based on ICMP probing technique to routers. Our method consists of technique to reduce number of probe packet to routers and probing topology building technique. Simulation results show that our method can monitor each link with approximately optimal number of probing packets and probing traffic cost.
