Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) With the bandwidth of access lines to the Internet becoming broader, various video communication services are being developed and provided. To maintain high-quality and high-presence video communication services, it is becoming more important to have high-quality network that guarantees the end-to-end quality of service (QoS). In this paper, for clarifying the necessity of network QoS guarantee for video communication services, the effects of quality of video added to voice communications were evaluated from the viewpoint of human sense. Subjective test results showed that the sense of intimacy increases when the video media is added to the voice communications even if the video quality is low. We also found that the video quality should be maintained at high level by guaranteeing network QoS in order to achieve more comfortable non-verbal communications.
