Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) An acoustic window to separate a sample from a water coupler is often necessary for the measurement of B/A. Even if the window is very thin, its impedance mismatching with the sample and water significantly affects the sound transmission at high frequencies. This disturbs the measurement even for linear acoustic property that is necessary for the finite-amplitude method. In this study, the measurement for linear acoustic property in such a case is experimentally investigated. Providing a reflector of tungsten rod located near the focus of a high frequency focused Gaussian beam, a sample container is set at the end surface to make a layer of about 1mm thickness with a sample as small as 0.1ml volume. A polymer film is used as a window at the interface. Prior to the measurement, the transmission property of acoustic window is derived from the reflection coefficients for the container filled with water at 18.6MHz and 37.2MHz where the attenuation in the film is ignored. Taking into account this film property, the specific acoustic impedance of the sample is then estimated from the reflection coefficient for the container filled with the sample. After the sound speed is estimated from the arrival time difference between the sounds reflected at the acoustic window and the tungsten rod, the density is derived. The attenuation coefficient is also derived from the decayed amplitude of the propagated sound in the sample. The validity of the present method is confirmed through the measurement for the sample with known properties.
