Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We usually synthesize an image of an object with high resolution in synthetic aperture technology by alternating signal compression for the range and azimuth directions. A simultaneous compression method with two dimensional correlation has not been used before, because it needs enormous numerical calculation. However, we can now use the method owing to the dramatic improvement of processing capability of a computer. In the present experiment, we carry out bottom observation with a synthetic aperture sonar in the Katagami bay, and compare the results by the alternate compression method with those by the simultaneous compression method.
