Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper presents an efficient Intra-prediction mode decision scheme for H.264/AVC using Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) coefficients. One of the key features in H.264/AVC is the block Intra-prediction that improves data compression ratio in Intra pictures, however it requires large computational cost. Recalling that H.264/AVC also contains classical but essential encoding procedure using DCT in advance of Intra-prediction, we may be able to reduce the computational cost provided that we develop an efficient mode decision scheme using DCT coefficients. Actually some of DCT bases are exactly the same with the images to be predicted by some Intra mode decision, the use of DCT coefficients will work effectively. From the above expectation, we develop an efficient Intra-prediction mode decision scheme and evaluate it through some computer simulation.
