Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) A facial caricature represents features of individual face compactly and effectively. An individual face can be expressed richer by adding "Kansei" information. This paper proposes a method which can automatically synthesize facial caricatures animation using expression vector separated from facial features space. Fisher's linear discriminant analysis is utilized to obtain expression vector which represents transformation from one kind of facial expression to another one. While the principal component analysis is employed to find the normalized orthogonal bases of the linear subspace of facial features. Then, Gram-Schmidt decomposition is incorporated to construct new normalized orthogonal bases in which the expression vector is separated from other vectors representing facial features. Finally, we can transform the facial expression of the input face to a new one by changing the orthogonal decomposition coefficients of the original facial expression. The usefulness of the proposed method is shown by human's subjective evaluations.
