Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Molecular alignment disorder of polymer walls in a flexible ferroelectric liquid crystal (FLC) display was improved by controlling temperature range of nematic phase of the FLC. The polymer walls were formed by ultraviolet irradiation to nematic phase FLC/monomer solution through a photomask. The polymer alignment disorder was generated by the phase transition from nematic phase to smectic phase of the solution due to decrease of monomer component in the solution. Temperature range of the nematic phase was expanded by doping nematic liquid crystal (NLC) to the FLC/monomer solution to avoid the nematic-smectic phase transition. The expansion of the temperature range was approximately 20℃ at monomer concentration of 15wt%. The level of the dark state of the FLC display with NLC doping became less than half of that without NLC.
