Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In recent years, a low cost optical communication system is expected in the fields of FTTH (Fiber To The Home) and automobiles. We have studied about bi-directional single plastic optical fiber (POF) communication modules using light-induced self-written waveguides which realize low cost optical waveguide devices. In this report, we showed fabrication process of the module and two completed modules with 980 μm and 120 μm core diameter POFs respectively. Additionally, a 250 Mbit/s communication was then demonstrated using the modules with a green LED (λ=495nm) and a red LED (λ=650nm). The results of the bit error rate measurements indicated that receiver sensitivity at a BER of 10^<-12> were -17.4 dBm for the green LED and -20.6 dBm for the red LED.
